Al Gore (Again)?
Former vice president Al Gore is back in the news as he contemplates another run for the presidency.

Former VP Al Gore: Should he? (File Photo)
First, "Washington Whispers" -- a political gossip column in U.S.News & World Report -- reported earlier this week that Gore allies were counseling him to jump into the race soon while Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) is preoccupied with her 2006 reelection. "It's Gore Time," said one source in the "WW" piece.
Perhaps these friends-of-Gore need to lobby their man a bit more. In a speech in Sweden earlier today, Gore said: "I have absolutely no plans and no expectations of ever being a candidate again." Always the tease, he added: "I don't completely rule out some future interest, but I don't expect to have that."
One former Gore advisor said today: "I am told he is not running" for president in 2008.
Should he? Check out this Sept. 2004 profile of Gore by New Yorker editor David Remnick. It provides the definitive look (so far) into the former veep's mind.

I don't see a democratic presidential winner on the stage. Don't believe any of them will measure up against Mc Cain if he runs. Hillary get's creamed by the rebublican base which will move heaven and earth to defeat her.
Gore-Edwards or similiar has a shot but i'm hearing "my pal Al" is not a player. I'm thankfull for one thing, Bush is 5/8 of the way throught messing up my country.

I sincerely hope that Gore does run in 2008. He is much more qualified for the office than any of the other front-runners right now (Clinton, Edwards, Kerry, etc.) and I think he does realize the mistakes of 2000. I would love to see a Gore-Mark Warner ticket, but that's just the Virginian in me (and someone who wants to see the Dems competitive in the South).

Besides, isn't it Hillary's turn to drop the ball in 2008?

If Gore doesn't run in 2008, he won't be running period.
He's never had the power of personality on his side, and it won't take long for the public to just forget about him.

As somebody who was formerly a strong Gore supporter, his candidacy would be one that I, for one, would not welcome.
In my opinion, he totally blew what should have been a very winnable election in 2000. His decision to totally diss Bill Clinton, without recognizing all the positives that gave Americans a reason to keep a Democrat in the presidency, is what lost the race.
Instead of aligning himself with the thriving economy which Clinton was able to build out of an inherited defecit, he treated the President like a pariah. It was the same type of approach that allowed Conservatives to co-opt the word 'liberal' and make it a dirty word.
It is time Democrats stopped their increasingly re-active campaigning and got off the defensive and far more pro-active.
The person to do that, despite some sparks of life in the past few years, is not Albert Gore. I want a candidate who is not embarrassed to be a Democrat and a candidate who is savvy enough to take on the GOP at their own game and force them to answer for the failed policies of the Bush administration. Gore failed big-time and I don't trust him to turn in a better performance in '08.
Actually, irregardless of the candidate, we need a PR team with a clue.

I sincerely hope that Al reconsiders. A Gore/Obama '08 ticket would be something to see.
